AI is taking over -- everyone has lost their writing spark.
As I looked over a company website, it became painfully obvious that AI had written everything. But then I thought, "does that really matter?"
It's odd. I find that the writing style has an odd charm, yet I also find myself repelled by it. I wonder if it matters that people’s styles converge as we use similar tools to refine our writing.
Personally, I enjoy writing. I know it takes time and effort to develop a style unique to myself, yet using AI to refine my writing hinders that growth. Yet I use it anyways, because it noticeably improves the clarity and flow.
When it comes to how we should feel, I don't have an answer. I said something similar in another reflection, but I feel like AI outputs will become like tropes. People enjoy tropes because they're familiar and let us turn our brains off in a sense. Similarly, consuming AI content may make us feel better because it's more familiar. And there will always be those who value the outliers, what humans wrote, but they may become like the movie critics, the ones who have watched so much that it takes something truly unique to move their heart.
So, I'm very curious if humans will band together and collectively reject AI writing, or if it will silently seep into every aspect of being. My more realistic thinking is that AI is already part of creative processes and even people's own thought processes, so its effects won't be black and white. Rather, depending on people's reliance and use of AI, writing itself may fundamentally change except for areas like this blog, where it's easy and desirable to write with no assistance.
